One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps

Over these days we will work the Twelve Steps using Buddhist teachings and practices through meditation, lecture, discussion, interactive and written exercises. Students will learn mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation practices that support their recovery.
Sessions will explore Twelve Steps themes including:
• Higher Power
• Spiritual Awakening
Buddhist topics include:
• Four Noble Truths
• Eightfold Path
• Five Hindrances
• Five Precepts
• Three Refuges
• Four Foundations of Mindfulness
The Buddha’s teachings on craving and letting go will be a particular emphasis, as well as self-compassion and loving-kindness. Each session will include periods of meditation and time for questions. Students will have the opportunity to write and share on recovery topics, as well as developing community in an intimate setting.
We will use the Buddhism & The Twelve Steps Workbook as a framework for working the Steps.
